A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in India. A long running scientist, Abdul
Kalam's prominent role in India’s in 1998 nuclear weapons tests. In 2002, India ruling
National Democratic Alliance helped him win election against the country's former
president. Abdul Kalam became India's 11th president, in July 2002.
Kalam basically Born at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul
Kalam specialized in Aeronautical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology which
is in Tamil Nadu. Dr. Abdul Kalam gave significant contribution as Project Director to
develop India's 1st indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) which was successfully
injected the Rohini satellite in the near earth orbit in July, 1980 and made India as
member of Space Club. Kalam was responsible for the evolution of ISRO's launch vehicle
programme and particularly the PSLV configuration. After working for 2 decades in
ISRO, Dr. Abdul Kalam took the responsibility of developing Indigenous Guided Missiles at
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as the Chief Executive of
Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP). He was also responsible for
the development of AGNI and PRITHVI Missiles. Abdul Kalam was the Scientific Adviser for
Defence Minister and Secretary and Department of Defence Research & Development
from July, 1992 - December, 1999. During this period he guided to the weaponisation of
strategic missile systems and the Pokhran-2 nuclear tests in collaboration with
Department of Atomic Energy and which made India a nuclear weapon State. He also gave
big contribution in mission projects such as Light Combat Aircraft.
Dr. Kalam's also wrote some books - Wings of Fire, India 2020-A Vision for the New
Millennium, My journey and Ignited Minds - Unleashing the power within India. These
books have been translated in many Indian languages.
Dr. Abdul Kalam became the 11th President of India on 25th July 2002 and his main focus
is on transforming India into a developed nation.
